An example program is the Boeing 747 model airplane:

The FAA mandates that customers with Airplanes that are over the 20,000 cycle limit on May 12, 2005 must be in compliance by having their new SSID programs in place. (See AD 2004-07-22).  Further, after a 1,000 flight cycle grace period from this date, the airplane must have the subject inspection successfully accomplished in order to remain airworthy.

SSID/MPD Commonalities

Program scheduling: 2 D-Check inspections into one Maintenance visit.

.

Minimum Requirement: SSID Program

Airworthiness Directive; Safety related

.

Scheduling for commonality Integration in one D-check

  1. Review / Validate maintenance program for integration.

  2. Align program for task interval and content as required.

  3. SSID Program requires "Supplimental" (to the MRB/MPD/Task card/ Service Bulletins and ADs) Inspections for suspect or "Watch" areas in the airplane structure.

  4. SSID inspection levels and intervals are based on DTR check form analysis (note: After the Initial inspection at or before the 20,000 flight cycle threshold, subsequent Repeat inspections are required not to exceed a "D" check interval as established per the operator's scheduled maintenance program.)

  5. Package the SSID and MRB/MPD/Job Card Program for common inspection level, access and support.

.

Benefits of MRB/SSID Integrated Program

Required Integrated Program inspections are performed at one established "D-Check" maintenance interval instead of two independent program inspections. Maximize access and support (manpower and facilities) efficiencies to reduce down-time and required manpower. Minimize airplane "out of service" time to improves flight operations/scheduling. Accomplish SSID requirements through Integrated Scheduled Maintenance Program. Report Inspections Evaluation process:

  1. Select SSID task and corresponding Damage Tolerance Rating (DTR) check form item.

  2. Determine the operations specification tasks that may accommodate the SSID item.

  3. Determine the operating utilization (flights per year - FPY).

  4. Analyze the total DTR provided by the operations spec task.

  5. If the total DTR is equal to or greater than required DTR, the SSID item can be satisfied by the accomplishment of the operations spec task.

  6. If the total DTR accomplished by the operations spec. task is less than the required DTR, the SSID task is unique and requires an inspection task tailored to the appropriate maintenance opportunity.

  7. Package structures or zonal maintenance program tasks with common access.

.

Integration Considerations

Maintenance program Heavy Check integration needs:

Familiarization with the operator's operations specification; MRBR and SSID Operator utilization, Understanding of Requirements, Program rules and guidelines; Recording requirements; Required documentation of Maintenance operations and practices
